- Sarracenia purpurea, commonly known as the purple pitcher plant, northern pitcher plant, turtle socks, or side-saddle flower, is a carnivorous plant in the family Sarraceniaceae
- Sarracenia purpurea var purpurea grows fat stocky clumping pitchers, which turns deep pink to red later in the growing season
- Pitcher plants are easy to grow if their basic needs (sun and water) are met – That prefer a sunny position outdoors for optimal colouration and are excellent candidates for beginner carnivorous plant enthusiasts
- Pitcher plants are our favorite because of their large, showy, and colorful flowers and leaves. Insects fall or get caught in the recesses of the funnel shaped traps and are used by the plants as a source of nutrients for growth.
