Downoi ( Pogostemon helferi )

Pogostemon Helferi also known as Downoi, has a distinct look with its lovely crinkled curly green leaves spreading into a Star like appearance. A fairly easy plant to grow as long as it receives enough nutrients. Once established it can be used to form a beautiful foreground carpet. The plant itself can grow up to 8cm from tip to tip. Strong lighting will bring about compact growth, while growing taller with dimmer lighting. For a nice effect it can be nestled into small gaps on driftwood. When planting, space about an inch apart so it has room to grow. Over time Pogostemon Helferi will form a dense carpet. CO2 will help accelerate growth rate. If you see yellow leaves then try increasing nutrients in the water.Reproduction is from side shoots or cutting and replanting.
