Found from California to Chile, such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru

Most often in less densely wooded areas, but can also hide under reefs, small rock caves, driftwood, or in the sand. They are also active during the day in some moist vegetative areas.

They also inhabit near the coast and often go to the sea to replenish salt

Juvenile are blue-green or gray-brown, and as they grow, they become pale gray to brown, hazel, tan, orange-brown, and dark gray. Light and dark brown spots on the body
